PESARO

Pesaro is an Italian municipality of 95,352 inhabitants, co-capital of the province of Pesaro and Urbino in the Marche. It is the second most populous city in the region, after Ancona.

Overlooking the Adriatic Sea and crossed by the River Foglia formerly Isauro, the name from which the city may have taken its name, Pesaro is a seaside and industrial center located between two coastal hills: San Bartolo and Ardizio; its historic centre is full of elements of interest, especially from the Renaissance period. The city has an urban area that extends outside the municipal boundaries and includes several other municipalities such as Montelabbate, Vallefoglia and Mombaroccio.

The town extends in the area between the two main coastal hills: Colle Ardizio to the south-east and Colle San Bartolo to the north-west, home to the homonymous Regional Natural Park of Monte San Bartolo.

Pesaro boasts a sandy beach divided into three areas: the coast of the Flaminia bay (near the San Bartolo hill), the Ponente sector in the central area and the Levante sector which from the Piazza della Libertà extends along the slopes of the Ardizio hill up to to the locality of Fosso Sejore.

Since 2005, the city has been awarded the Blue Flag, an annual award given by the FEE to recognize the municipalities that meet the criteria of excellent quality of bathing water and the service offered. The main river that crosses the city is the Foglia, which starting from the Umbria-Marche Apennines flows in the northern area of the urban agglomeration and then flows next to the port of Pesaro.
