Gregorio Paltrinieri
Also known as Greg, he is an Italian swimmer specialized in freestyle, born in Carpi on 5 September 1994.
He began to move his first strokes at the age of three months when his parents enrolled him in the first aquatics courses.
His father Luca, a former good-level competitive swimmer, has managed the Carpi swimming pool in the province of Modena since the new facility was inaugurated in 2015. It was in that pool that the swimmer from Carpi began training under the guidance of his father.
Gregorio's career began in the breaststroke, which remained his specialty until he was 12 years old. Subsequently, thanks to his physical development and his considerable stature, he moved on to freestyle.
He competes for the Coopernuoto company and from 10 July 2012 also for the State Police team.
He is a basketball enthusiast, in particular he is a fan of the New York Knicks and since he was a child he dreamed of becoming an NBA star.
As for swimming, his role model is Australian Ian Thorpe who he first saw on television at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games when he won three golds and two silvers.
Reigning world champion in the 1500m long and short course, 10km open water and 800m short course.
He is also currently the reigning European champion in the 800 m in both long and short courses, in the 5 km in open water and in the 5 km team.
With Massimiliano Rosolino he is the only Italian swimmer to hold an Olympic medal for each metal (gold, silver, bronze).
