In the heart of Marina Centro, just a short walk from the iconic Grand Hotel and surrounded by Federico Fellini Park, lies the charming Fountain of the Four Horses. A public art masterpiece that blends beauty, history, and local legend.

History and Curiosities

  • Inauguration and Sculptor
    The fountain was created by Filogenio Fabbri, a sculptor from Rimini, and inaugurated on June 29, 1928, to the sound of the San Marino military band.
  • Wartime Survival
    Despite bombings and occupation during WWII, the fountain remained intact.
  • Demolition and Rescue
    In 1954, the original basin was dismantled, and the four sea horses were moved to various locations, including Parco Marecchia and the Fire Department, after the demolition of the nearby Kursaal.
  • Triumphant Return
    Thanks to the efforts of Umberto Bartolani and Fausta Fabbri (daughter of the sculptor), the fountain was restored “as it was, where it was” in 1983.
  • Restoration Work
    In 1987, a plaque honored Ugo Stentori, who rebuilt the central basin. Further maintenance was carried out in 2017 by the Municipality of Rimini.

The fountain features a circular marble basin, representing the sea, from which rise four elegant sea horses. They spray water from their nostrils and support a smaller upper basin, from which a dramatic central jet emerges.
